Youth Committee Developed Infographic Resource Sheets

In January 2024, Take a Pain Check (TAPC) and the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA) teamed up to create a Youth Committee comprised of youth and young adults with lived experiences. The committee's goal was to share their knowledge and experience to create information by patients, for patients, touching on different areas of need.

The committee and initiative was inspired by the research done by TAPC and CAPA in the summer of 2023, known as the Make Rheum for Youth project. To learn more about the survey study, see the resources below.

Rheum for Your Mind Workshops
- Resource Package

Rheum for Your Mind was a 2 day event held October 2023, in collaboration with the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA). It covered various topics related to mental health, for youth and young adults living with rheumatic conditions. A resource package was created for participants, and we are happy to share it here with you!

The 'Tooth' About Oral Health Care and Rheumatic Diseases - Resource Sheet

This document aims to provide resources and recommendations to patients with rheumatic conditions. In November 2023, the tip sheet was presented at the American College of Rheumatology conference.

Page 1 describes the importance of oral medicine, how rheumatic conditions can affect oral health, and contains resource links to other websites. Page 2 contains at-home recommendations for patients containing general dental tips, ulcer management, temporal joint disorder tips (tips related to your jaw), and dry mouth tips.
This project is a collaborative initiative by the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and Take a Pain Check Foundation.

Make Rheum for Youth - Infographics

The Make Rheum for Youth initiative was launched to gain a comprehensive understanding of the needs of youth and young adults with rheumatic diseases to identify strategies in support of mental health and psychosocial well-being, amongst other factors. Rheumatic disease doesn't merely present physical challenges—it also significantly impacts various psychological and social aspects of one's life, often disrupting academic progress, straining friendships, and fostering a sense of social isolation for youth and young adults. The objective of this effort was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the needs of youth and young adults with rheumatic diseases to identify strategies in support of mental health and psychosocial well-being.
